New Mazda MX5
The global launch of the Mazda MX-5. It immediately captured drivers’ hearts. They loved its true sports car traits – rear wheel drive, perfect 50:50 weight distribution, great handling, sure-footed stability and responsive performance. They loved the fact that it fused modern design ideas with traditional sports car values. And after three generations of Mazda MX-5, they still love it. In fact, they’re so smitten, the Mazda MX-5 is now easily the world’s best-selling roadster, with over 850,000 sold since its launch. For these happy drivers, motoring isn’t just about getting from A to B – it’s about getting a kick out of driving. This exceptional car never ceases to surprise and delight. Each new stage of the Mazda MX-5’s life brings something fresh and exciting – the second generation had a more powerful engine, the third generation introduced “gram strategy” – meticulous “weight watching” engineering (the interior mirror weighed a packet of crisps less than on the previous model). And the 2006 Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe introduced the world’s fastest folding powered hardtop – opens or closes in just 12 seconds. 20 years of pure motoring joy.
